18 killed, 1,330 injured in road accidents

Motorbikes involved in 73 per cent traffic crashes across province

At least 18 people were killed and 1,330 were injured in 1,227 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Of the injured, 732 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 598 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident sites.

The majority of RTCs, 73 per cent, involved motorbikes. Official data showed that 620 adult drivers, 44 underage drivers, 193 pedestrians and 535 passengers were among the victims.

The statistics show that 306 RTCs were reported in Lahore with 328 victims, followed by Multan with 90 RTCs and 95 victims and Faisalabad with 90 RTCs and 93 victims.

The data revealed that the RTCs affected 1,109 males and 239 females, while 290 of them were under 18 years of age, 671 between 18 and 40 years old and 387 above 40 years of age.

According to the data, 1,073 motorbikes, 85 auto-rickshaws, 135 cars, 30 vans, 16 buses, 27 trucks and 106 other types of vehicles and carts were involved in the RTCs.
