Minister says steps being taken to address telecom sector issues

ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haque on Tuesday announced that 5G technology would be launched next year in Pakistan.

He made the announcement during a meeting with Zong Chief Executive Officer Wang Hua. In the huddle, matters related to telecom spectrum, 5G technology, connectivity and provision of quality telecom services were discussed.

The minister emphasised that the provision of broadband services was the topmost priority of the IT ministry and urged the telecom sector to upgrade infrastructure to provide quality services to consumers.

“Every possible step is being taken to resolve the issues being faced by the cellular mobile operators,” he said.

He expressed the resolve to launch the 5G technology next year to help cope with challenges of the digital world.

In the meeting, Zong CEO Wang Hua said Zong was ready to fully cooperate with the Ministry of IT in the launch of 5G technology and revealed that Zong was soon going to introduce a microfinance application for e-commerce.
