KARACHI:

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement- (MQM-P) has filed an application in the Sindh High Court to immediately stop the local government elections.

Former Mayor of the Karachi, Waseem Akhtar said, “Hatred has spread, PTI has created an atmosphere of chaos, how the elections can be held in such a situation?”

He said that many polling stations are under water. The local bodies should be empowered before the election, the election should be done in a better way so that the incoming mayor can do something.

MQM-P has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court regarding becoming party to the petitions of Jamaat-e-Islami and PTI against the postponement of the local body elections and to stop the immediate elections.

In the petition, MQM stated that it is necessary to examine the legal complications before the local elections.

We should also be heard as a party. According to the order of the Supreme Court, local bodies cannot be empowered without legislation. Municipal elections should not be held until amendments are made in local government laws.
