Power consumers assured of state-of-the-art services
Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Khurram Dastgir has declared that state-of-the-art services will be provided to electricity consumers as per requirements of the 21st century.
“Elimination of theft, further improvement in electricity delivery, obtaining accurate data and not passing on the burden of electricity theft to consumers remain our top priorities,” said the minister during a visit to the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) head office.
On the occasion, the first Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Data Centre was inaugurated.
Dastgir emphasised that the energy industry had always been in need of modern technology and therefore the government had started the AMI project for all power distribution companies (DISCOs) in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
He pointed out that the federal government was planning to shift to solar energy for meeting the electricity requirements of government buildings. Different solar projects are being undertaken across Pakistan to provide access to low-cost electricity.
The minister said that he had issued instructions to all DISCOs to shift commercial, agricultural and bulk consumers as well as high-loss feeders and transformers to AMI meters.
Speaking on the occasion, Iesco Board of Directors Chairman Engineer Qamarul Islam Raja said that the completion of AMI project would further increase the sale of electricity while timely payment of electricity dues would improve the company’s financial position.
