Many shops gutted in Shershah market fire

KARACHI:

A fire broke out in Shershah junk market in the morning turning many shops into ashes.

Fire brigade department rushed ten vehicles and doused the flames after hectic efforts.

A firefighter, 35-year-old Muhammad Akram suffered serious injuries when a wall collapsed on him during the operation. Goods worth millions of rupees were gutted in the fire.

According to details, fire broke out in a shop that spread to other nearby shops. The fire burnt main electric cables which fell on other shops causing extensive fire. The market was closed in the morning, but as soon as the shopkeepers received the information they reached the spot to take precautionary measures to save their goods.

Thirty-five-year-old firefighter Muhammad Akram was seriously injured when a shop wall collapsed during the rescue activities.

Akram was immediately taken to Civil Hospital for medical assistance where after medical examination it was found that Akram's leg was badly affected with fractures in several places.

The streets of the market were also very narrow due to which the movement of fire tenders and especially water tankers faced severe difficulties.

The fire was so intense that smoke could be seen rising from a long distance.

At the accident site, Chief Fire Officer Muhammad Ishtiaq while talking to media representatives said that he received information at ten minutes past seven in the morning, after which firefighters immediately reached the spot.

Due to the fire, the goods kept in the shops were burnt. The part of the market where fire broke out, car accessories are bought and sold. Due to the fire, the goods kept in the shops were burnt, the value of which is estimated by the shopkeepers to be millions of rupees.

The Chief Fire Officer said that due to the fire, the electric wires also fell down and caused the fire to spread.

Later, around 12:30, the fire was brought under control.

However, the cooling process continued for several hours. The shopkeepers present on the spot said that they lost millions of rupees.

They said that due to the fire, the parts of the vehicles were destroyed and they have become a victim of severe economic crisis.
