Trucks warned against dumping waste on roads

AC visits vegetable market and removed encroachments by the shopkeepers and stall setters at the main double road

ISLAMABAD:

Strict action would be taken against fruit and vegetable trucks that dump their garbage outside Sabzi Mandi, said Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon.

During his visit to the vegetable and fruit market of Sector I-11 on Wednesday, Irfan Nawaz warned the violators and said that in case the garbage catches fire, it will be a havoc, said an ICT spokesperson.

He said that the DC also warned of strict action against the shop owners who illegally occupied the footpaths by placing their stalls and carts. He has also directed the market committee staff to increase the number of sweepers to improve cleanliness as well as the security and lighting arrangements on priority bases, he added.

Irfan Nawaz has also ordered to place a permanent setup for the Magistrate in the vegetable market where he could be present throughout the day to observe routine matters, added. He also said that under DC’s directives, the huts on empty space were to be removed to make a platform under PC-1 of the vegetable market which is in liaison with the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

He said that the DC further directed the market committee to provide better facilities to the citizens so that they could buy the basic necessities of life at reasonable rates from the vegetable market. Meanwhile, assistant commissioner Saddar visited the vegetable market and removed encroachments by the shopkeepers and stall setters at the main double road.
