A sharp drop in the temperatures following intermittent rains has put a halt to the rising number of dengue cases in the garrison city as only 20 new dengue cases were reported during the last 24 hours.
Previously, the tally was recorded well over 100 per day. The fresh arrivals have raised the tally of confirmed cases in the Rawalpindi district to 4,504.
District Epidemics Prevention and Control Coordinator (DCEPC) Dr Sajjad Mehmood on Monday said that 99 patients were admitted to the city's allied hospitals, including 46 to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 28 to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) and 25 to the Holy Family Hospital (HFH).
He informed that out of the total admitted patients, 64 tested positive, with 56 belonging to Rawalpindi.
The health official said that the district administration, in collaboration with allied departments, had registered around 3,011 FIRs, sealed 676 premises and issued challans to 7,850 violators for not abiding by the anti-dengue SoPs.
He also said notices were served on 13,754 violators and a fine to the tune of Rs10,435,628 was imposed on violators for violation of the SoPs from January 1 to date in various areas of the district.
Dr Sajjad added dengue cases were decreasing with changing weather conditions and hoped that in the coming days, the dengue cases would end as the weather turns further cooler.
