ISLAMABAD:

The establishment of an effective Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) should be the key goal of every power sector entity after the fourth industrial revolution as power systems are transformed from physical to cyber-physical with the introduction of smart grids, AMIs and distributed generation, said the chairman of power sector regulator.

He made the statement at a webinar hosted by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on the “Role of CERT in 21st Century” with the aim of creating awareness among power sector entities.

Nepra Chairman Tauseef H Farooqi, in his opening address, remarked that CERT was the first line of defence against cyberattacks, which “can compromise our multibillion-dollar assets”.

Speaking on the occasion, Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) former additional director general Ammar Hussain Jafri briefed the participants about the roles and responsibilities of CERT, international CERTs and what should be the way forward for power sector licensees while constituting the response teams.
