Approves replacement of motorcycle rickshaws with electric carts

LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has constituted a Provincial Task Force for Road Safety to help prevent traffic accidents.

The task force will prepare a comprehensive plan of action and prompt steps will be taken to prevent traffic accidents along with ensuring safety of the people in the light of its recommendations. Legislation will be done in this regard and Provincial Minister Basharat Raja will head the task force that will have the chief secretary, inspector general of police, additional chief secretary(home), traffic and other officers as members.

The chief minister was presiding over a meeting to review measures for road safety, in which it was also decided in principle to promote environment-friendly electric bikes to reduce pollution in the province.

He also approved the introduction of electric mini-carts to place motorcycle rickshaws. The chief minister said electric bikes and cars will be encouraged in the province, while motorcycle rickshaws will be replaced by golf cart vehicles in a phases.

He revealed that a readable token sticker would be pasted on the vehicles after their inspection and in case of the absence of the token the vehicle would immediately be taken off the road.

British investment

A 15-member delegation of eminent industrialists and business personalities of Great Britain met Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and agreed to enhance cooperation for investment in Punjab. Matters pertaining to investment in the agriculture, livestock, poultry and other sectors came under discussion in the meeting.

The British industrialists expressed their keen interest in the Central Business District, Ravi Urban Development Authority and other projects. The chief minister disclosed his intention to organise road shows in Britain to promote investment in various projects in Punjab.
