Attempt on Imran’s life sparks protests
Party workers and supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Balochistan staged protest demonstrations across Quetta against the attack at the deposed Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday evening.
They blocked the main Airport Road and Koaila Phatak bringing the city traffic to a stand-still and causing great inconvenience
The protesters burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the federal government for its failure to provide security to the former prime minister of the country.
“We want the arrest of the culprits behind the attack,” they demanded. The protesters accused that the present government had deliberately created hurdles for the Haqeeqi Azadi March and the attack was part of these hurdles.
Long queues of vehicles could be seen on both sides of the road because of the blockade by PTI supporters.
“Imran Khan is our leader and we will sacrifice our lives for him,” they said, adding that the government should properly investigate this case and reach the real perpetrators because the most popular political leader of the country has been targeted.
People used alternative routes to reach their destinations after the blockade of the roads. Balochistan government had tightened security across the provincial capital and other cities in the aftermath of the attack on the former prime minister. Police, levies and personnel of the Frontier Corps were also deployed on all roads of Quetta to maintain order.
