The statistics show that the Punjab emergency service Rescue 1122 received a total of 1.08 million "obnoxious and irrelevant" calls at the emergency number 1122 since its inception in District Rawalpindi.
The data revealed that 0.537 million calls were received from girls, whereas 0.462 million calls were received from boys.
Additionally, 32,437 calls were made by minors, 2,460 musical calls, 51,450 abusive calls and 1,560 were irrelevant calls.
Fine and imprisonment for prank callers
The Rescue 1122 team takes legal actions against prank callers that include imprisonment upto six months or a fine of Rs50,000 or in some cases, both.
The course of action involves the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s assistance in blocking the numbers from which the prank calls are made.
However, lodging an FIR and taking legal actions only occurs in serious situations.
Correction: An earlier version of the story had incorrectly stated the number of calls. The correction has been made.

Interesting comments (37). What an interesting artical or some thing else.
This type of articles reflects the true picture that why we don't deserve gud facilities in this country.
Our entertainment preferences have changed over time. Previously we used to have benign sort of fun but nowadays, regardless of either sex, we are developing treacherous character, and we are deemed to suffer in future. Rawalpindi is considered as one of the more literate of the societies in Pakistan, but this attitude clearly defies such perception.
This is not mc Donald or KFC that these girls are making pranks calls to ,, they should realize that its an origination made to help people who are really indeed of help .. it may sound funny and enjoyable act but they must know that they are sure-ly responsible for the deaths which could be prevented in that time .. and on the of judgment they will questioned .. we are going astray just because we are going away from over religion
may ALLAH guide us all
@Misbah:
Actually, girls do not outnumber boys in Pakistan. Wikipedia has the following breakdown for our country;
Sex ratio at birth: 1.10 male(s)/female under 15 years: 1.06 male(s)/female 15–64 years: 1.05 male(s)/female 65 years and over: 0.82 male(s)/female total population: 0.98 male(s)/female (2006 est.)
[Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DemographicsofPakistan]
So, the only time more women exist than men, they are above the age of 65. Having said that, the gender differences would not really matter anyway, because as you can see from the above breakdown, there isn't a big enough difference in the numbers.
And we, the boys, are called nalaiq :P
Wow!! way to go girls!!!!!
I don't mind receiving girls' prank calls...my number is 03xx-xxxxxxx .... Oh cumon' ET, don't censor it!!!!!!
Girl population outnumbers boy population as well so the story should have considered percent ratio based on population vs prank calls. The issue is grave and not that superficial. It is the collective national immaturity that we all suffer from. We see the results, everyday!

@Syed: well you have sort of identified the underlying reason. Our misogynist society has rid itself of female influence. The females are banished to the confines with not much access to outer world. We have destroyed the mindset of our female population.
Just as the macho/faithful/pious males are responsible for the violence/conservative mindset which results in Talibanisation, they are equally responsible for all bad things the female find themselves in.
Stupid ppl..playing around with some1s life..shame on u prank callers..
@ abdussamad and Syed and to the people who thumbed them up:
Be sensitive to the situation in your country. Misusing emergency services is not a lol-ing or a means of passing time. Please educate yourselves and your family members if they are participants.
When half of the population is forced to stay at home they would find ways to entertain themselves all day long. I don't blame these girls. Atleast its better than watching cheap Indian dramas.
Shame on you GIRLS
@abc: I am in full agreement with your suggestion. Make it a minimum fine of 1000rs for first time offense and see prank calls drop by 90% overnight.
Farigh qoum sey wat else can we expect? This country is drowning in every way and form. From suiced attacks to target killings to war to economy pverty no jobs no nothing and so called "Pakistani Patriots" are indulged in such activites. And Majority is the YOUTH! Shame on such youth.
Is this the best they can do for there country? lol
These are the side effects of media. What else you can expect from a Nation who breeds on immoral, unethical, un religious 24/7 indian/pakistani movies, dramas & songs etc.
Punjab Government need build more vocational centers in their province.
What a shame!! We as a nation are wanting to have a system and yet we are the ones who miss use it the most. How can then we except the police to take the calls seriously and act on it. Shame on people who are doing the prank calls. These people should be caught and fined heavily.
Oh my. I know this solution is not ideal, but give Rescue1122 the ability to charge hefty sums of money to the prank callers via PTCL . Or something of the sort. This is madness.
Well well well! Subhan Allah!
@IZ Read again. It's 1 million.
What is wrong with Pakistani girls. Looks like girls will keep continuing prank calling and boys will continue being talibanized.
LOL@ musical calls!
Its really sad to know that people abusing this great service. It does not make any sense to demand the betterment of the service when people themselves abusing this service.
Shame! Prank callers should be named and shamed publicly. Start putting their names and address in newspaper and see how prank calls end.
Most of the girls around us prove boys be more intelligent and practical than them. As for these girls, I think they do genuinely need help!
This is Parha Likha Punjab :P
@Adeel Ahmed: no
How can people have so much time to waste that they call 1122 for a prank call... don't they realise they could be risking someone's safety by keeping the line busy? Do people not have any common sense?
@IZ: What else does a 'faarigh qaum' do? :p
100 million prank calls? What is wrong with people???
