'Why not discuss it in person?': Urwa Hocane responds to Sonya Hussyn's legal notice

Amid the release of 'Tich Button,' the first-time producer has landed herself in hot water

With the premiere of Tich Button around the corner, the media is overshadowed with controversy surrounding the film’s cast. On October 22, Sonya Hussyn sent the film's producer Urwa Hocane a legal notice that demanded Rs5 million in damages for not paying the actor's full dues. Now, the Udaari actor appeared on Express Entertainment's The Talk Talk Show and openly discussed Sonya's claims.

On being asked about the recent notice, Urwa termed it as a "misunderstanding" and proceeded to urge the actor to "discuss it in person". She said, "I was unaware that Sonya had sent any notice. I mean I am just a call away, so why not discuss in person? We have been working together for quite some time, so I believe speaking to each other and figuring things out should have been done. I am pretty sure there is some misunderstanding."

The Mushq actor also questioned Sonya's decision, explaining how the issue could have been resolved "maturely" without undermining the project. "We are mature enough to know how to resolve an issue. Why sabotage a project this way? I know the process has become obnoxiously longer but we should understand and clear out the misunderstanding," she added.

On the other hand, Sonya remains steadfast in her decision and is still reportedly not attending any of the film's promotional campaigns. In the legal notice shared with The Express Tribune, the Ishq Zahe Naseeb actor mentioned Urwa "entered into a contractual" agreement with her but did not pay the entire amount at the end of the film's completion.

The notice also stated that while Sonya has fulfilled all the terms and conditions of their agreement, Urwa "did not make the said payment on one pretext or another, despite repeated requests and reminders, which amounts to a sheer breach of contract."
