Teenage gunshot victim dies at hospital

Police said the 15-year-old had a fight with other students at their school near Liaquat Bagh two months ago

A ninth-grade student, who was shot and injured by unknown assailants near Government Islamia School No 1 around three days ago, succumbed to his injuries at Rawalpindi District Headquarters Hospital on Monday.

According to the police, the victim was shot in the eye which left his brain substantially damaged.

Police said 15-year-old Mateen Ali, a resident of Chak Jalal Din, had a fight with other students at their school near Liaquat Bagh two months ago.

Subsequently, on October 28, unknown assailants had opened fire on him near Government Islamia School No 1, they said. The police said he was shifted to the DHQ hospital by Rescue 1122 personnel. Despite the tireless efforts of the doctors at the hospital, the bullet that pierced through his brain proved fatal, they said.

Syed Murtaza Shah, the uncle of the deceased, filed the application with the police. The deceased's maternal uncle however took the stance that he will nominate the suspects in the First Information Report (FIR) after due verification.

The police said that on the request of Syed Murtaza Shah, they previously had registered a case of attempted murder under section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Later, after the death of the student, Waris Khan police added section 302 to the FIR, they said. The police said that the body of the student was handed over to his relatives after medico-legal formalities.

Expat robbed

Robbers impersonating law enforcement personnel robbed an expatriate returning from the United Kingdom near the commissioner office in Rawalpindi.

According to the police, the robbers got away with a smartphone worth Rs90,000 and £2,700 along with a UK residence card and travel documents.

According to a complaint filed with the police, Raja Azram, a resident of Gujar Khan was on his way to home after receiving his brother Raja Akram from the Islamabad International Airport when their vehicle was intercepted by unidentified men as they took a turn from Kachehri Chowk to Jhelum Road.

Police said the unidentified men introduced themselves to be law enforcement personnel and sought to search the bag of Raja Akram that contained his cell phone, cash, UK residence card and other travel documents.

As a result, the impersonators succeeded in making away with a smartphone worth Rs90,000, cash worth £2,700 along with a UK residence card and travel documents, they said. The police have registered a case under the provisions of the crime of fraud and cheating.
