KARACHI:

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Shaha has said that the newly recruited teachers will be asked to teach the subject in which they have scored the highest marks. “The teachers will be imparting knowledge to their students of a subject they know the best,” Shah said while talking to The Express Tribune on Sunday.

The teachers who scored the highest marks in a subject during the test recently conducted for recruitment of primary school teachers and junior elementary school teachers would be asked to teach the same subject after their posting at the education institutions, the minister said. “This will also improve the quality of education at the government-run schools.”

He further said that Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training would be arranged for the government schoolteachers to hone their skills.

The education minister said that a teacher well-versed in a particular language may not necessarily be good at teaching the same language. “A teacher can only teach well, if he knows how to teach,” he added. “We will also provide CPD training to teachers, comprising training courses, seminars, workshops, conferences, events, webinars and online e-learning programs.”

While explaining further, he said that the CPD would highlight the best practices and technical skills of the teachers and would help them to improve ideas and concepts and the environment, which would further improve the teaching style and competence of the teachers.

According to the statistics provided by the education minister, 164,372 candidates appeared in the junior elementary school teacher test. Offer letters have been issued to 15,885 against 17,684 vacancies, while 1,799 seats are still vacant.
