LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Chaidhry Pervaiz Elahi has announced the launching of the Blue Line mass transit project from Model Town to Data Sahib Chowk and old airport in the provincial capital.

Speaking to the media after laying the foundation stone of the CBD (Central Business District) Punjab Boulevard and remodeling of Kalma Chowk Underpass project on Sunday, Elahi disclosed that deliberations were under way with the Asian Development Bank for construction of the Blue Line Train project.

He alleged that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had ruined as CM the Orange Line project originally envisioned during his previous tenure. Responding to a question, he underlined that whenever a long march happened, backdoor negotiations were done.

He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif habitually resorted to hollow talk, while Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan was doing practical politics and his vision would take ahead the country.

The chief minister announced that Lahore city would be divided into three districts for better administrative control.

A new district will have some part of Kasur. The motorway will connect Kasur with Pakpatan, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Sindh.

The CBD Punjab Boulevard is a project of the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA).

The project worth Rs4.2 billion will be completed in 180 days. The 365-metre-long boulevard will provide a signal-free approach from Barkat Market to Jail Road and Ali Zaib Road and will give a hassle-free entry and exit to Pakistan’s first business district. It is estimated that the boulevard will facilitate more than 250,000 vehicles daily.

During his address at the event, the CM said, “We are stabilizing Punjab as a developed welfare province. Public relief and well-being are our utmost priority. The PCBDDA has secured a prominent spot in the development of Punjab. That is the reason that we have expanded the jurisdiction of the authority to all over Punjab.”
