KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to Administrator Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), municipal commissioner and director anti-encroachment against the illegal occupation of a KMC building near Jamshed Quarters on a contempt of court petition.

While arguing before a two-member SHC bench, headed by Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, the counsel for the petitioner Usman Farooq Advocate submitted that the respondent, Tariq Khan, and another person, named Sohail, had erected illegal structures in a KMC building near Jamshed Quarters.

He contended that the land mafia had also made constructions on an adjacent nullah and chopped down old trees within the building's premises.

The respondent pretends to be a policeman and threatens the residents.

A double-cabin SUV of the Sindh police has also been parked in the KMC building.

The court ordered the police to file a case against the land grabbers and take action.

Despite the court order, the illegal constructions have not been removed.

The court issued notice to the administrator KMC, municipal commissioner and director of anti-encroachment on the contempt of court application and asked the parties to respond by November 15.
