Week-long campaign to cover over 2.5m kids in Karachi, Hyderabad

KARACHI/HYDERABAD:

The second phase of weeklong paediatric vaccination drive against Covid-19 will begin on November 1, 2022 in Karachi and Hyderabad.

A little over 2.5 million children of up to the age of 11 years will receive their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to keep them protected against the virus.

The first phase of the drive was carried out from September 19 to September 24, 2022.

The target population of 5 to 11 year olds was 2,389,719 and the actual coverage was of 2,518,312 children, which was 105.3 per cent of the target. Round two of the paediatric vaccination campaign against Covid-19 will focus on administering the second dose of the vaccine to the children who have already received the first shot.

The areas in which the campaign will be conducted include Karachi central, east, west, south, Malir, Korangi, Keamari and Hyderabad.

There will be technical assistants who will record the name, age, gender, Form-B ID of the child inoculated / CNIC & contact number of parent(s) along with details of vaccine consumed & other logistics used on android phone Excel sheet. Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho said, "Second shot of the vaccine will be given to those children who have already taken the first dose, as this will ensure their protection from Covid-19 virus."

Project Director EPI Sindh, Dr. Irshad Memon added that "It is because of the Covid-19 vaccination that we have returned to our normal daily routine and we must now protect our children and keep them safe from Covid as well." He requested the parents and administrations of schools to come forward and help the government in the campaign.
