‘Ghost schools’ shut down during raids
Many “ghost schools" – non-functioning schools that continue to exist only on paper – in Central Kurram were shut down after teachers were found to be absent for years and registers showed fake names.
The action was taken during raids carried out by the assistant subdivisional education officer (ASDEO) following public complaints regarding the absence of teachers during duty hours.
Likewise, even in schools where classes were held many teachers had not taught for a long period of time but were still enjoying perks and a salary.
ASDEO Alia said names of "ghost teachers" were found on school registers who were "absent" for years.
