Gang impersonating rights activists, magistrates busted

Police claim to have busted a gang of fraudsters who allegedly kidnapped people for ransom impersonating human rights campaigners and magistrates.

The gang blackmailed a man in Korangi in an attempt to extort a huge sum of money in ransom from him, but the man reported it to the police.

Korangi police raided an address and arrested six suspects, including two women. They have been identified as Yar Muhammad, Majid Naseer, Muhammad Shiraz, Mujeeb, Naseem and Shabana. Fake cards identifying them as media persons and human rights activists, mobile phones, and two vehicles were recovered from them.

The suspects were allegedly involved in “short-term kidnapping” and other incidents of ransom. A case was registered against them.

Meanwhile, Baldia Town police arrested a man impersonating intelligence official and his accomplice who swindled millions of rupees from people, promising them government jobs. The impersonator was identified as Ashraf Ali Qaimkhani, alias Captain, and his accomplice as Syed Irfan Ali.

According to police, Qaimkhani and Irfan received 1.2 million on August 17, 2022, from two men, named Abdul Samad and Nauman, and handed them fake employment orders from the FIA and Sindh Health Department.

Police recovered fake employment letters and identity cards of government departments from the possession of the suspected impersonators.
