Mufti Menk preaches balance between life, religion as follower calls him out for having fun

The Zimbabwean Islamic scholar posted a picture of himself aboard a motorboat in London

Zimbabwean Islamic scholar Mufti Ismail Menk recently posted a picture while enjoying water sports in London with his family. While the picture looked like he had the time of his life, some of his followers called him out for being a Sheikh and yet “wasting time” in fun activities instead of giving more time and working for the Ummah (the Muslim community).

Responding to a follower who called the scholar out on having some fun and not being a “real Sheikh”, Menk preached in his humble way on how the right way to live is to draft a balance between life and religion.

“Real sheikhs wouldn’t ever see your comment on social media either and take the time to reply. A few minutes spent every year doesn't determine the genuineness or not of a person,” he wrote. “Rasulallah (Prophet Muhammad) also engaged in many recreative activities with his family. We must be balanced. Our children and family members have a right over us. Concern for the Ummah is only possible if you have concern for your own family first.”

After his statement, people lauded him for preaching moderation and keeping up with worldly activities while practicing religion.

Commenting on the follower whose ignorant comment was corrected, another user wrote, “I wish she herself would have gained some knowledge before spitting her words. Taking part in activities, showing love to your wife, travelling with your family and smiling, all these are Sunnah.”
