An event was organised to create awareness among schoolchildren about the importance of hand hygiene.
The event was held at a school in Mansehra in connection with The Global Handwashing Day.
Participants also demonstrated handwashing practices to help the students learn how to wash their hands properly with soaps to prevent diseases. They discussed this year’s theme ‘Unite for Universal Hand Hygiene’ and called for the need to work together for promoting hand hygiene.
Organisers said that ingraining handwashing culture at a local level was a key to raising awareness about the benefits of washing hands with soaps. They called for establishing handwashing corners at schools to instill best hand hygiene practices among students.
The District Education Officer emphasised the need to ensure the availability of hand soaps at schools. He said that students should share the day’s learning with their families to promote safe practices at the household level.
Village Council Chairman said that the health practice was also part of religious teachings. He also pledged his commitment to raising awareness of hand washing at the community level.
Implementation Support Unit (ISU), with financial assistance from the UNICEF organised the event where an animated movie was also screened.
A large number of students and school teachers participated in various activities conducted on the occasion.
District Education Officer, ASDOs, Village Council Chairman, Parent Teacher Council and local community members also attended the event. Prizes and gifts were distributed among the winners and participants of various activities.
