Incidents of violence against women have become so common that it appears as if there were no laws to protect the latter.
In the month of January this year, a man, along with his other family members, had killed his wife by hanging her with a ceiling fan in Chak Jhumra.
The complainant, Mushtaq Ahmed, a resident of Chak No 132 RB Sahuwala Abadi, Jhumra Road, had told police that his daughter Sajida got married to suspect Mohsin Ali eight years ago.
The complainant told the police that Mohsin used to fight and beat his daughter due to which his daughter left her husband’s home and filed a divorce suit in the court.
He said that his daughter and her husband had reconciled about a year later and started living happily, but on the day of the incident, the suspect, Mohsin, along with his mother, Bilqis, father, Tariq, sisters, Safia and Lubna, tortured his daughter and killed her by hanging her with a fan over resentment of filing a divorce case.
Nishatabad police reached the spot on information and took the body into custody.
The province has witnessed several cases in which women were brutally subjected to domestic violence and sexual assault.
In December last year, a man had allegedly shot and killed his wife and fled.
Police said the suspect, Asghar Ali, a resident of the 93GB area, had married Parveen Bibi, a resident of 336GB, 16 years ago.
Reportedly, the suspect was mistrustful towards his wife and, therefore, she was not allowed to go out of the house.
On the day of the murder, the victim went out of the house without her husband’s permission.
The suspect shot her with a pistol over leaving the house without his permission.
The victim was rushed to a hospital where she died of her injuries. Police took the body into custody and shifted it to a hospital for postmortem. They had also raided some places after registering a case to arrest the husband of the deceased.
The police registered the case against the suspect under Sections 302 and 311 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of the victim’s sister, Sakina Bibi.
In October last year, two sisters were burnt alive along with five other people in a house in a similar case.
The police said the incident was initially declared the result of short circuit, resulting in the death of two sisters, four children, including an infant, and a 65-year-old person.
