KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court has acquitted six accused police personnel in Intizar murder case, while the sentence of two accused has been commuted to life imprisonment.

A two-member bench headed by Justice KK Agha gave a judgment on the appeals against the punishment of Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) police officers and personnel for the murder of Intezar Hussein, 19, on Khyaban-e-Ittehad DHA in 2018.

The court accepted the appeals against the sentence handed down by the Anti-Terrorism Court in 2021. The court acquitted the accused Tariq Mehmood, Tariq Rahim, Azhar Hussain, Shahid Usman, Ghulam Abbas and Fawad Khan by declaring the life sentence null and void.

The court converted the death sentence of two accused Daniyal and Bilal to life imprisonment. The court withdrew the provisions of terrorism from the case.

The lawyer of the three accused, Raj Wahid Advocate, took the stand that the allegations leveled by the prosecution are baseless.

According to the police, the 19-year-old Intezar was shot dead by ACLC personnel and officers. The incident took place on January 13, 2018 within the limits of Darakshan police station. A case was registered in Darakshan police station on the complaint of Ishtiaq Ahmed, father of the victim.

A special anti-terrorism court had sentenced Bilal Rashid and Danial to death for the murder of Intezar Hussein by Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) personnel on the Khyaban-e-Ittehad in Defence Housing Authority in 2018.

Intizar Ahmed was shot dead on January 13, 2018, on Khayaban-e-Ittehad after officials and personnel of the ACLC resorted to indiscriminate fire on a white sedan, killing the victim on the spot.

Although the police had initially claimed that the boy was killed in an act of targeted killing by at least two armed assailants riding a motorcycle, it was later revealed that the ACLC officials and personnel were behind the brutal killing.
