No let-up in dengue cases in twin cities
The emergence of the cases of dengue virus has decreased slightly in the twin cities. In the last 24 hours, 28 and 75 people have been affected by the vector-borne disease in Rawalpindi and Islamabad respectively.
The total number of victims of dengue has reached 3,117 with the number of patients undergoing treatment in three hospitals in Pindi reaching 219.
As many as 58 dengue patients from Islamabad are undergoing treatment in Rawalpindi hospitals. 100 patients are admitted at Benazir Bhutto General Hospital, 79 patients at Holy Family and 40 at the District Headquarters Hospital. The number of dengue-positive patients in three hospitals has reached 145.
Two citizens have lost their lives due to the dengue virus so far in the garrison city.
Meanwhile, the number of dengue patients in the Islamabad area has reached 3,169 while seven patients have lost their lives due to dengue in the federal capital.
Chief Executive District Health Authority Dr Ishaq says that the number of patients is decreasing due to the change in weather and vigorous anti-dengue campaign.
Spraying and fogging are started without delay in the area from which the dengue patient is reported.
District Coordinator Epidemics Prevention and Control (DCEPC), Dr Sajjad Mehmood said that the district administration, in collaboration with allied departments, had registered 2,665 FIRs, sealed 611 premises, issued 7,425 challans and 10,674 notices with fines of Rs7,361,916/- on violations of dengue SOPs from January 1 to date.
Earlier, a team of experts from Lahore had painted a gloomy picture of the dengue situation in Rawalpindi stating that the situation could worsen further if the weather remains hot and humid, which is providing an ideal ground for the breeding dengue virus.
In a report, the team had pinned hopes on the weather to turn around as the virus will die a natural death in cold weather.
