Committee formed to probe airport fire
A Fact Finding Committee was constituted to investigate a fire at Multan International Airport (MIAP) which occurred earlier this week.
A spokesperson for MIAP CAA said on Wednesday that the committee would determine whether the fire broke out due to short circuiting or any other reason.
At the moment, the exact cause of the fire could not be determined until a final report was submitted by the committee, he stated, adding that flight operations at the airport remained normal and were not delayed, thanks to the timely efforts of Airport Manager (APM) Raja Azhar Mahmood and his team.
The spokesperson maintained that smouldering was traced from the FIA record room in the International arrival lounge which spread into the International Arrival terminal and departure lounge. The CAA fire brigade reached the scene and extinguished the fire. Smoke in the building was also exhausted through smoke ejectors, he explained.
PIA flights to Sharjah and Jeddah operated on time, whereas a PIA flight from Karachi was delayed for an hour. No flights were diverted nor were any operations ceased.
