CM takes up contract teachers’ problems

Forms committee of provincial secretaries to submit proposals

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has called for a foolproof mechanism to solve college teachers' problems.

Speaking to the teaching staff of Government Fatima Jinnah College, Chuna Mandi, he stressed that solving the problems of the nation-builders was a collective responsibility.

The CM said the Punjab government would resolve the genuine issues of the contract teachers on a priority basis. On his direction, a committee of the provincial secretaries of higher education, regulation and law was formed to present feasible proposals in this regard within 14 days.

He also said that strict punishments had been proposed to curb drug addiction in educational institutions. An autonomous body would be formed in Punjab to curb drugs along with setting up special courts and police stations for the purpose, he added and asked the teachers to play their role in sensitising the youth about the hazards of narcotics.

Religious education is an important means to remain safe from drugs, he concluded.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi felicitated the educators on the World Teachers Day.

He said his teachers had played a profound role in the position he was holding.
