Fireman surviving Korangi Fire Station assault dies

Unidentified assailants had lined up and shot three firefighters on Friday

KARACHI:

A fireman who was injured in the firing at Korangi Fire Station died during treatment raising the death toll to three.

Irshad was critically injured, while his colleagues Amir and Mehboob died on the spot when unidentified gunmen stood them against the wall of the fire station and shot them in execution style.

Police said they are making sketches of the assailants with the help of eyewitnesses which will make it easy to arrest the accused.

As per reports, the suspects came to the office of the fire brigade located near Korangi Bilal Chowrangi between Friday and Saturday night, who asked a fireman to call all the firemen from inside the office.

When four firemen came out, the accused made them stand up in line and opened fire at them. A fireman fled the scene and hide inside the room. Two firemen, Amir and Mehboob, were killed on the spot by the firing of the accused, while Irshad was seriously injured. The accused fled from the spot after the incident. The injured was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries after two days. The police handed over the body to the heirs after legal proceedings. The police had registered a case against the unknown accused on the complaint of the surviving eyewitness.

According to the police, though CCTV cameras are installed around the crime scene, they are faulty. Police said that, other firemen were sleeping in the fire station who did not hear the sound of firing and their statements are also being taken. The investigations so far suggest that the suspects have specifically targeted the fire stations.
