LWMC set to acquire authority status

Meeting discusses mobile app, re-bidding of secondary waste contracts

LAHORE:

In order to strengthen the solid waste management system in the provincial capital, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has decided to transform itself into an authority.

The decision was made in the 130th session of the LWMC Board of Directors held here on Monday.

Besides changing legal status of the organisation, the LWMC board has also approved issuance of fuel to operational vehicles through in-house filling stations, ban on transfer and posting for better performance, increase in the price of compost (belia), establishment of the LWMC’s own office building, increase in grant of deceased workers, launching of the LWMC mobile application and re-bidding of secondary waste contracts.

Following the board meeting LWMC Chairman Atif Chaudhry told the media that the company is striving to provide the best yet cost-effective cleanliness facilities to the citizens of Lahore.

He highlighted that in order to strengthen the department and make Lahore one of the cleanest cities the transformation of company into authority is the ultimate solution.

It is will not benefit the organisation but our citizens would get the door-to-door cleanliness services.

After becoming the authority, the LWMC will be enable to generate more revenue.

Increasing the prices of compost will increase the company's revenue while it has also been decided to increase the amount given for the burial of the LWMC workers from Rs25,000 to Rs50,000.
