KARACHI:

PTI leader and FixIt campaign founder Alamgir Khan took out a rally from Merewether Tower to the Central Police Office to record protest against rampant street crime in the metropolis.

Kidnapping and rape of young women and girls was becoming more common besides physical and verbal abuse, protestors said chanting slogans against the police and the Sindh government over failure to control street crime and robberies.

The protestors called for establishing police on professional lines and depoliticising it.

Alamgir Khan said that people are not safe even at their doorstep.

He said robbers shoot to kill people on offering slightest of resistance.

Many have died while in some cases the sole breadwinner of a family became disabled for life due to injury caused by robbers.

The people of the city continue to get robbed, maimed and killed, but the police officers spend the days in airconditioned and go to their homes in police cordon, Alamgir said.

A heavy police force was deployed outside the Central Police Office and all three gates were closed.

A woman present in the protest march said that now the robbers and muggers even kidnap young girls.

She said that when the citizens leave home, they are not sure of returning home safely.
