LAHORE:

The security arrangements for the final match of the cricket series between Pakistan and England were tightened to thwart any possible terror attack.

Earlier, Lahore police had been deploying 8,000 cops for the security measures, but on Sunday the deployment was increased by 50%. At least 12,000 police personnel were deployed to ensure safe conduct of the match under a four-layered security plan.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar said the police had set up over 200 pickets at sensitive locations to curb any attack or anti-social act. He added that the patrolling by Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit (PRU) was also enhanced.

Over 225 teams of Dolphin Squad, PRU and Elite Force kept patrolling the surroundings of Nishter Sports Complex.

Alternate arrangements were made and a traffic advisory was also issued for the commuters during movement of the teams.

The official said monitoring through CCTV cameras was ensured during the teams’ stay, travel and the matches. Snippers were deployed at vantage points along the route, stadium and other important buildings.
