LAHORE:

The Emergency Services Academy (ESA) has collaborated with Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) Pakistan to organise international courses for rescue officers. Two Community Action for Disaster Response (CADRE) courses were organised at the academy to enhance the professional skills of rescue officers and instructors.

A total of 48 officers and instructors from Rescue 1122 were trained to establish Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) at the union council level to assist the emergency service in managing emergencies and safety promotion activities.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Punjab Emergency Service Department (PESD) Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer said it was a great opportunity provided to rescue safety officers (RSOs) and instructors to refresh their professional skills to further train the community volunteers on organised emergency response as per international standards.

Dr Naseer said that the role of any community in any emergency or disaster was highly important as they were the first responders and sufferers as well. So a well disaster sensitised community can play an effective role in case of any untoward incident.

He also directed the RSOs and instructors to ensure uniform standard of CADRE training while offering the course to the CERTs.

On the occasion, ADPC Country Representative Brig (retd) Sajid Naeem acknowledged the role of the Emergency Services Academy for institutionalisation of the Programme for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) courses.

The course participants were trained on common hazards and community response group, securing family preparing for response, first aid and basic life support, basic search and rescue, management of fire and water emergencies, incident command system and triage and dead body management.

This was followed by an 11-hour practical simulation exercise.
