ISLAMABAD:

In his key policy address at the Ministerial Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU PP-22) in Bucharest, on Tuesday, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haque said that Pakistan’s ICT economy has achieved stellar growth rates and is among the fastest growing sectors in the country.

“This demonstrates the ability of Pakistan’s ICT industry to deliver IT solutions and services through sustainable models,” adding that, “Pakistan has geared itself for the rapid adoption of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to deliver on socio-economic development goals committed to our people.”

Highlighting the strides made by Pakistan in serving the rural community, the minister said, “With respect to our Wireless Broadband Access Programme, the provision of LTE technology has been made mandatory for the delivery of services. The country has increased its coverage and data, which will eventually benefit the end user,” he elaborated.

Reducing the sector’s emissions and following the approach of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 7 (clean and affordable energy), all Universal Service Fund projects now require operators to power up their infrastructure through solar energy. Pakistan’s fibre optic programme has evolved as well, he maintained.

“Our government envisions a digital Pakistan that will bring social and economic prosperity and citizen empowerment,” he continued, emphasising that the government was working on a holistic digital ecosystem for Pakistan with advanced concepts and components for the swift delivery of next generation digital services.
