Businessmen urged to explore global market
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday called on the business community to explore the global market for promoting Pakistan’s exports and bringing foreign exchange so that the country could grow faster.
He made the remarks while speaking at a dinner reception organised by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) for foreign diplomats.
“Our businessmen will have to be inculcated with the spirit of ‘21st Century Columbus’ to go out and find new opportunities for increasing exports, which are vital for giving a push to the economy,” he said.
Turkmenistan Ambassador Atadjan Movlamov and Italian Ambassador Andreas Ferrarese, while speaking on the occasion, pledged their cooperation in promoting business and economic interests of Pakistan in the international market.
In his welcome address, ICCI President Muhammad Shakeel Munir cited the devastation caused by floods and urged foreign envoys to play their role in enhancing exports of Pakistan to provide cushion to the faltering economy.
He pointed out that Pakistan was producing a wide range of quality products including marble and granite, textile, surgical instruments, medical equipment, chemical and pharma products, sports goods, leather goods, food products including rice, fruits and vegetables, IT products and IT-enabled services. “Cooperation of foreign diplomats is important to increase their exports,” he said.
