Measures are being taken by the Punjab government to control the increasing rate of cancer, especially among the women.
Due to non-diagnosis of breast cancer among women hailing from the rural areas, this deadly disease has taken many lives that could have been saved.
Now, a clinic called the Well Women Clinic has been established at the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhakkar. The clinic has been equipped with all the modern machinery for detection of cancer at its earlier stages.
All the staff of this clinic consists of women. The clinic was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Sargodha Division, Maryam Khan.
The Deputy Commissioner of Bhakkar, Khurram Shahzad, and health officers of the district were also present on this occasion.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Commissioner Maryam Khan said that the main objective of setting up of the clinic was to diagnose the increasing number of cancer cases among women at their earlier stages.
She said that all the women visiting the hospital for routine check-ups, especially those who were pregnant, would be tested free of charge so that the disease could be controlled at its initial stage.
She said that this initiative by the Punjab government was a great addition to the healthcare sector.
Earlier, the commissioner and the deputy commissioner also visited different wards of the hospital.
They especially reviewed the sanitation situation at the hospital and commended the Admin Officer of the DHQ of Bhakkar, Mehr Usman Ali Sajid, for good sanitation arrangements.
Some of the women who happened to be visiting the hospital for their routine check-ups praised the Punjab government's plan and said that diseases like cancer could not be diagnosed in the past at their early stages.
