First flight of flood relief assistance from Russia lands in Karachi

KARACHI:

The first flight carrying flood relief aid from Russian landed at Karachi's Jinnah International Airport on Wednesday. 

The relief goods include food items, tents and water cleaning devices.

The consignment was received by Russian Consul General Fedorov Andrey, Advisor to Chief Minister on Relief and Rehabilitation Rasool Bux Chandio and representatives of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) earlier announced a “significant” relief and rehabilitation package for flood-hit Pakistan, designed to “support people, livelihoods, and infrastructure immediately, and in the long-term”.

Previously, countries including Germany, Tukey and the US have also dispatched aid to flood victims in Pakistan. The aid consignments had urgently needed food, hygiene products and medical supplies.
