KARACHI:

The DIG Traffic Police Karachi, Ahmed Nawaz, on Tuesday undertook surprise visits to various areas and highways of the city for on-spot evaluation of the performance of traffic police personnel and to seek feedback from the general public. The visits were undertaken on the instructions of IG Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon.

According to a statement issued by a traffic police spokesperson, during the visits, DIG Nawaz suspended two officials over poor performance and violation of rules and regulations and directed them to report to the headquarters.

"Negligence toward the duty, corruption or misuse of powers is not compatible with the sacred profession of law enforcement," he said, adding, "Officials are also bound to follow the law because they cannot be expected to break the law under any circumstances."

After the surprise visits, DIG Nawaz also called an emergency meeting of all district SPs, Sub-Divisional Officers and concerned traffic police officials at his office.

He issued strict instructions for direct and indirect measures to check the performance of officials in the areas under their supervision and to undertake surprise visits regularly to ensure timely action on public complaints. He also instructed the participants to improve the process of delivering services to citizens.

He said that along with the field officers, the supervisory officers would also be questioned and the officers who are not interested in solving people's problems would be removed from their posts.
