Over 43 temporary learning centers have been established in flood-hit districts by UNICEF where 1,401 boys and 1,501 girl students have been enrolled. Moreover, from 23 schools flood drainage and debris were removed.

This was revealed at the 23rd Local Education Group meeting held under the chairmanship of Balochistan Secretary Education Abdul Rauf Baloch.

Addressing the meeting, the education secretary said that the government is determined to tackle several challenges in the education sector, in which serious steps are being taken to provide access to education for all and to meet other educational needs and demands in the province.

He appreciated the initiatives of development partners and other relevant stakeholders, including Global Partnership for Education (GPE), UNICEF and the European Commission.

Praising the endeavors of other stakeholders, he emphasized for their continuing support and cooperation, including provision of technical and financial support in achieving education indicators. He said that the recent floods and emergency-like situation arising out of climate change needs more pragmatic and diligent efforts to help the masses in seeking education.

Rauf Baloch also said that gender equality has been given primary importance, with a special focus on improving literacy in girls at the primary level.

Capacity building of teaching staff, improving the curriculum and content, gender diversity and better teaching in the classrooms are being given pivotal importance, along with the school management committee role, he said, adding that this had reduced the dropout rate.
