Archaeology dept put on notice in old building case

Owner seeks to demolish decaying structure

KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Government of Sindh and the Archaeology Department on a petition related to the deplorable condition of Ruqayyah Manzil, Pakistan Chowk.

Two-member bench headed by Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi, heard the case.

The petitioner's lawyer said that Ruqayyah Manzil is the property of his client Azra Tasneem. A part of the building has collapsed.

The client wants to demolish the building and rebuild it but the Department of Archaeology is obstructing.

The Department of Archaeology claims that the building is an archaeological site.

The court issued notice to the Sindh government and the Department of Archaeology and sought their response.
