No respite from robberies
The law and order situation in the city remains precarious as muggers continue to loot citizens with impunity. Five people, including a transgender person, were injured in firing incidents in different areas of the metropolitan city on Sunday.
A middle-aged man was shot and injured while resisting a robbery attempt in Awami Colony, near Korangi No. 4 Cadet Force School. He was transported to the Jinnah Hospital where he was identified as 57-year-old Abdul Aziz, son of Abdul Rasheed. Doctors have described Aziz's condition critical as he has been shot in the back.
According to details, Abdul Aziz, who was returning from work, was shot by motorcycle-riding muggers at the gate of his house after having been deprived of his cash and a mobile phone. Police reached the crime scene an hour after the incident, triggering a protest by local residents who shouted slogans against the police. The locals claimed that a few days ago the same muggers had also snatched Rs. 300,000 from a citizen at gunpoint in the same area.
In another incident, robbers shot and injured a young man near Sharjah Shopping Mall on Hub River Road, Baldia Town, when he resisted a snatching attempt. The injured was shifted to the Civil Hospital where police identified him as 35-year-old Noor Rehman, son of Faqir Muhammad. He sustained one bullet to his hand and doctors said his condition is stable.
Police said they are investigating.
Meanwhile, two persons were injured by celebratory fire during a wedding ceremony at Old Haji Camp in the Old City area of Nappier. The injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital in a Chheepa ambulance. A police spokesperson identified the injured as Fauzia, a transgender person, and 22-year-old Raziullah. Police are investigating the incident.
In yet another incident, a man was injured in "mysterious firing" near Qasim Mosque in Ettihad Town. He was shifted to the Civil Hospital where a police spokesperson identified him as 64-year-old Muhammad Ramzan, son of Wali Khan. Investigations have been launched.
