RAWALPINDI:

A policeman was found dead at his home in Mandra on Friday.

Mandra police said that head constable Malik Asif was found dead in a room of his house. Police reached the scene and discovered that he had sustained a fire shot in the chest. It could not be ascertained if anyone had shot dead the policeman or he committed suicide, as police were awaiting the postmortem report.

Police said that 35-year-old Malik Asif was last posted in Police Lines Rawalpindi. The body was shifted to a hospital for a post-mortem.

Police are investigating the killing incident from different angles and did not rule out the possibility of murder or suicide. Police said that the facts will come out after a detailed post-mortem report and investigation. A case has been registered.

In another incident, personal enmity between two groups claimed the life of 67-year-old Tariq Mehmood. The deceased was killed after being hit on the head with an iron rod.

After receiving information about the murder, the police reached the spot and shifted the body of the deceased to the District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem.

The police said that there was a rivalry between the deceased and his enemies over a land dispute. Mehmood was apparently hit on the head with an iron rod which proved fatal, said the police, adding that a case has been registered and the accused will be arrested soon.
