YouTube Shorts integrates with YouTube Music
TikTok competitor, YouTube Shorts, just announced its intention to integrate music saved on YouTube and YouTube Music into the Shorts app. Songs can also be saved on the Shorts app to listen in on later.
This integration is available to users by tapping the sound icon in the bottom right corner, directing users to a page where the song has been used in other Shorts.
The Save button on the page can let users visit the song on YouTube or YouTube Music in a playlist called "Sounds from Shorts."
Songs can be saved from YouTube or YouTube Music to use in YouTube Shorts videos from the same playlist.
YouTube has an entire repository of YouTube videos and a music streaming service, giving it an edge over TikTok, which doesn't allow this integration.
The ByteDance company has, however, been eyeing a streaming service to potentially work with in the future. The parent company has already filed a trademark application with US Patent and Trademark Office in May for a service called "TikTok Music." The mobile app would potentially let users purchase, play, share and download music.
Last year, TikTok released a report listing 175 songs that had been trending on the platform, eventually making it to the Billboard Top 100 Chart.
