Flour supply ban echoes in K-P Assembly
A lawmaker in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly on Tuesday termed the ban on supply of wheat flour from Punjab against the article 151 of constitution on demanding of the government to take up the issue with the Punjab government.
Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra said that the ‘imported’ federal government was threatening a ban on the supply of flour but this would destabalise the country.
He said that the government had failed to stabilize the economy despite all its efforts.
Jamat-e-Islami MPA Inayatullah presented a call attention notice, saying that the ban of transport of flour was against the article 151 of constitution.
He said that the K-P was already hit-hard by recent floods and there was a food shortage due to it, demanding of the provincial government to take up the issue with Punjab.
Jharga said that the PTI government had not compromised on issues related to issues faced by the province. He said that since July there was no supply issue from Punjab.
He accused federal government had failed to stabilize the economy of the country.
During the assembly session a lawmaker identified lack of quorum on which the session was adjourned till September 26.
It may be mentioned here that lack of quorum has been a permanent issue for quite some time. Large funds are spent on holding assembly sessions which are often adjourned due to the absence of lawmakers in sufficient numbers.
On Tuesday MPA Nighat Orakzai pointed out that only 30 members were present at the session. The speakers ordered counting of the members.
