LONDON:

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has paused new episodes of her Spotify podcast Archetypes out of respect for the official mourning period of Queen Elizabeth II, according to an alert on the platform on Monday.

A message on the podcast's Spotify page said: “New episodes of Archetypes will be paused during the official mourning period for Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II.”

A period of 'royal mourning' will continue until seven days after the Queen's funeral on Monday, September 19. Buckingham Palace said royal mourning will be observed by members of the royal family, Royal Household staff and representatives of the Royal Household on official duties, together with troops committed to ceremonial duties.

News of Meghan’s podcast arrives after her husband Prince Harry paid a highly personal tribute to his late grandmother on Monday. Thanking the Queen for her “sound advice” and “infectious smile,” in a statement, Harry also described her as his “guiding compass” through her commitment to service and duty. He also noted that he cherishes the time spent with her and vowed to honour his father, King Charles, as the new monarch.

The statement came two days after the duke and Meghan joined the new Prince and Princess of Wales at Windsor Castle on Saturday. The brothers, along with their wives, visited grieving fans lined up outside Windsor Castle on Saturday, which marked the first time the four were seen together side-by-side since March 2020.

Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties in 2020, and have since become alienated from the family. The also opened up about the withering criticism of Buckingham Palace and how they had been treated. However, the couple has now, unexpectedly raised prospects of a rapprochement between the brothers.

Meghan's podcast, Archetypes which has so far featured American singer Mariah Carey and tennis player Serena Williams as guests, looks at the "labels that try to hold women back," according to its Spotify description.

The royal, who was formerly known as Meghan Markle, starred in television legal drama Suits before her marriage to Harry.
