'Diriliş: Ertuğrul' star Celal Al arrives in Karachi to help flood affectees

Actor shared videos from submerged regions to call for donations

Turkish actor Celal Al, who plays Abdurrahman Alp in the renowned Turkish series Diriliş: Ertuğrul, has arrived in Karachi to join on-ground flood relief efforts in light of destruction caused by the climate crisis.

The actor travelled all the way from Turkey to educate his fans back home about the gravity of the situation in Pakistan so they'd donate to those displaced. In his attempt to cater to flood victims in the country via the Turkish Red Crescent, Al has also set an example for local and international celebrities to follow.

Taking to his Instagram on Monday, Al shared a video straight from the port city to write: “In Pakistan, Karachi. We are taking your [donations] to the affected people. You can also help by texting Pakistan [to] 2868.”

In another clip, the Ertuğrul star could be seen playing with a bunch of children in a flood-effected region. He captioned this post, “Long live Turkey and long live Pakistan!” Al then informed his followers, “One third of Karachi is submerged and I am trying to cater to the wounds of flood victims. Around 40 million Pakistanis are now homeless and thousands are dead, leaving so many children orphaned. I encourage you all to make a donation by typing ‘Pakistan’ and texting it to 2868.”

As of Monday the floodwaters flowing from Manchar Lake continued to wreak havoc in Dadu district as another village, Mian Yaar Mohammad Kalhoro, submerged in water, with officials warning that more villages might soon inundated.

Al had first visited Pakistan early last year, winning hearts of many with his charitable work for the people of Pakistan through the Omair-Sana Foundation (OSF) and Children’s Hospital Karachi. He also appreciated the scenic beauty of Islamabad.
