'Total fabrication': No, Harry Styles didn't spit in Chris Pine's lap

Sources close to singer-turned-actor Harry Styles have denied that he spat on his co-star, Chris Pine, at their film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Social media users had been busy debating whether Styles had actually spit on his co-star as it appeared in a viral video clip from the event.

The clip showed the As It Was singer facing the Princess Diaries star on his right as he took a seat and Pine immediately glancing at his lap.

While the coincidental timing of their actions along with the singer's face maneuvers supported the theory, the 42-year-old actor had a huge smile on his face as opposed to a frown that would have been there had the spit-theory been true. Some also said that Pine had simply zoned out and laughed at realising that his sunglasses, which he had been looking for, were in his lap.

Sources close to the former One Direction crooner on Tuesday responded to the gossip by declaring, “This is not true”.

Later on, according to The Guardian, Pine’s representative also released a statement putting the facts straight by saying, “This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

The film has been caught amidst a number of rumours regarding the cast and such behavior was encouraged by what seems to be a tense press push for the film. At Monday’s press conference, there was a lack of engagement from Pine while the film’s director, Olivia Wilde, attempted to dismiss rumors of a rift between her and Florence Pugh, her co-star.

Don’t Worry Darling is a psychological thriller film depicting a couple in the 1950s whose happy marriage comes under strain as Pugh’s character tries to investigate her husband’s secret work. The film has been at the receiving end of harsh reviews by critics who have been pointing out that Style lacks acting skills.
