KARACHI:

Korangi district SSP Faisal Bashir Memon has suspended the station house officers (SHOs) of three police stations over failure to control crime.

The action follows murder of five citizens by robbers in separate incidents of within two days and the robbery of Rs7.2 million from a bank in Awami Colony.

SHO of Korangi Industrial Area police station Pir Shabbir had left the police station charge before being suspended after two persons Pesh Imam Muhammad Saleh and Talha were shot dead by robbers in street crimes.

Among those suspended are SHO Zaman Town Inspector Humayun Khan, SHO Awami Colony Inspector Farooq Sanjrani and SHO Korangi Inspector Sohail Khaskhel.

Although two people were killed resisting robbery bid in Kazimabad and Landhi areas of Model Colony police stations, the SHOs were not changed. In this regard, police sources say that traditionally, SHOs are made the scapegoat by senior police officers. If the overall performance of Korangi district is evaluated, then the professional skills of other officers in Korangi district should also be evaluated.

Suspending SHOs is just to show off under public pressure which is nothing new. Such decisions have been made in the past as well. It should be noted that a statement was issued by the spokesperson of Sindh Police on August 13 last month in which it was told that a meeting was held in the Central Police Office under IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon in which a detailed review of police action at zonal and district level against law and order situation and different types of crimes, strategy and action plan was carried out and further necessary instructions were given which included evaluating the performance of top district SSPs on weekly basis and taking necessary decision.
