A large portion of the ceiling in the General Branch of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's (HMS's) main building collapsed on Wednesday, bringing down a false ceiling and damaging furniture, however, no injuries were reported.
The incident came to light when staff arrived for duty and found the office in disarray, refusing to work in the affected room, citing safety concerns. The headquarters is housed in a historic building that has long been in a state of disrepair. Despite repeated warnings and visible signs of structural decay, only cosmetic renovations had been carried out.
