PESHAWAR:

Two  policemen  were  injured when an angry mob attacked a police party on the outskirts of Peshawar on Saturday.

The police raid at a house in search of kidnapped persons in Shagai village enraged the local villagers to the extent that they started firing at the police party. Women stared throwing stones  at  police  vehicles providing  an  opportunity to the arrested accused to  escape  from  the  police  custody.

This forced the police to  abandon  the  raid  and  flee in panic as they were greatly outnumbered.

“SHO Regi Riaz Khan and Constable Khaista Rehman were injured when hit by stones.  They  have  been  rushed to the Khyber-Teaching  Hospital  (KTH)  where  their  condition  is stated  to  be  stable  now,”  he said.

Police  registered  an  FIR  against more than a dozen people under 7 ATA  and started investigation in the case.

A large contingent of police  has  been  deployed  in  the  area  as  villagers  were still  highly  charged  who blamed police of raiding  houses  without  court permission and ladies police  which  were  against  the  local  traditions  and culture.

Police  said  that  the  accused  who  had  been  arrested used  children  and women as shield very cleverly  and  managed  to escape. They said that a search had been initiated for them and they eventually will be arrested.
