24 cases registered against suspects during crackdown

As part of crackdown against the alleged gangsters, gun culture and history sheeters, Lahore Police reportedly took action against as many as 164 suspects.

At least 24 cases were registered so far, with a Lahore Police spokesperson adding that action against 41 suspects was taken under Gunda Act by asking them to submit qalandaras.

As many as 33 history sheeters were asked to mark their attendance in police stations and surety bonds were taken from 21 people, promising they will not participate in any illegal activity.

As many as 17 people were handed over to the investigations wing for further action.

According to further details, action against 35 suspects was taken by City Division, 27 by Cantonment Divison, 28 by Civil Lines Division, 19 by Sadar Division and 32 by Model Town police.

CCPO Lahore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar said that criminals who harassed citizens and occupied their lands and properties had been chased away before and the police will chase them again. Raids will be conducted at various places to arrest suspected drug dealers, gamblers, miscreants and land grabbers.

He further added that citizens should directly report harassment of women, aerial firing, the brandishing of weapons in double cabin vehicles and other criminal behaviour through the toll-free helpline 1242.

All tips will be anonymous and immediate action will be taken against the accused. Dogar also warned that strict action will be taken against police officers patronizing and having connections with criminals.

Three days ago, CCPO Dogar chaired a high-level meeting attended by DIG Operations, DIG Investigations, SSPs, SPs, DSPs and SHOs, where he announced a strict crackdown against alleged gangsters, history sheeters, land grabbers and criminals.
