Lahore witnesses scattered rain

Scattered rain was witnessed in different parts of the provincial metropolis on Monday.

The latest weather report indicates 71-124 millimetre (mm) rainfall is recorded in Lahore while hot and humid weather is observed in most plain areas of the country.

The report forecast partly cloudy weather with rain-wind, thundershower at isolated places in Kashmir, northeast, east Punjab, northeast Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) report states hot and humid weather was expected in most plain areas of the country. However, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thundershower is expected at few places in Kashmir, northeast Punjab, northeast Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Flood Forecasting Division of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned that very high flood level is recorded in River Kabul at Nowshera.

River Indus at Chashma, Taunsa Guddu and Sukkur is also showing high flood levels while River Indus at Kalabagh and Kotri is at medium flood level and at Tarbela is in low flood level.

It predicts that very high and above level flooding is likely to continue in River Kabul at Nowshera during next 24-hours.

The report forecasts mainly dry weather is expected over most parts of the country, however, isolated thunderstorm, rain is expected over the upper catchments of all the major rivers along with Northeast Balochistan, Southeast Sindh and Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ismail Khan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore divisions on Tuesday and the same pattern is likely to maintain on Wednesday.

The report highlights that 51mm rain is recorded catchment areas of the Indus River in Kakul, 23mm in Oghi, 14mm in Murree, 13mm each in Babusar and Shinkiari, 7mm each in Bagrote, Gilgit and Chilas, 4mm each in Dir and Malam Jabba, 2mm in Astore, 1mm each in Islamabad (Zeropoint) and Kabul. Dera Ghazi Khan (Fort Munro), Parachinar, Bunji, Besham, Skardu and Khaar-Bajaur also witnessed traces of rain.

In the catchment areas of River Jhelum, 27mm rainfall is recorded in Rawalakot, 8mm in Bandi Abbaspur, 4mm in Chakothi, 3mm in Dhulli, 2mm in Garhi Dopatta, 1mm each in Muzaffarabad City and Balakot.

Similarly, in the catchment areas of River Chenab, 124mm rainfall is recorded at Lahore Lakshmi Chowk, 101mm each in Ghari Shahu and Lahore Fort, 71 mm at Jail Road, 69mm at Misri Shah, 52mm at Mughal Pura, 50mm at Shahdara, 44mm at Gulshan e Ravi, 32mm at Upper Mall, 22mm at Tajpura, 20mm each at Punjab University and Samanabad, 18mm at Iqbal Town, 10mm at Johar Town, 5mm at Gulburg, 2mm at Airport, 7mm at Ravi Syphon, and 2mm at Sharqpur.
